Calvary North Adelaide Hospital
Your Stay

Before Your Admission

Pre-admission Clinic
The Pre-admission Clinic is organised by specialist Registered Nurses and provides an opportunity for patients to have much of the admission process completed prior to a planned admission. This service is an avenue for discharge planning, education, clinical tests and completion of paperwork to make the hospitalisation as short as possible with optimum outcomes. In addition, this clinic provides an opportunity for patients to tour the hospital if desired.

Pre-admission clinic appointments can be made Monday – Friday, telephone 8239 9252 or 8239 9100 between 8:30am – 4:30pm or alternatively email the staff at:

Health Insurance

Insured Patients
If you are a member of a registered health fund we can claim from the fund on your behalf
and you will only be required to pay those costs not covered by your fund, such as an
excess or gap, before or at the time of your admission.
Additional charges, incurred during your stay are payable on discharge (eg: pharmacy / STD
phone calls).
You are advised to check your health fund prior to admission to determine your level of
cover and ascertain if you are likely to incur ‘out of pocket’ expenses, including excess and
co-payments. You should also discuss potential expenses with your doctor prior to your
admission to hospital.

All excess and co-payments are required on admission and can be paid via credit card (VISA
or Mastercard), cash or cheque.

Uninsured Patients
If you are not insured with a registered health fund, you will need to meet the total
estimated cost of your hospitalisation at the time of, or prior to, your admission, with any
shortfall in the estimate payable on discharge.
Additional charges incurred during your stay are payable on discharge (eg: pharmacy / STD
phone calls).
You should discuss expected costs with your doctor prior to your admission to hospital.
Please remember that Medicare makes no contribution to the cost of your stay in a private
hospital. There is also an additional charge for DVA or Workcover patients requiring a
private room.
Estimates are also available by contacting our Accounts Department on 8239 9136
between 8am - 4pm Monday - Friday or email:

Workers Compensation / Third Party / Public Liability insurance patients
Please complete the details on the admission form and bring your appropriate insurance
claim number to the hospital on admission.
We require written confirmation from the Third Party, stating acceptance of the claim, prior
to your admission to hospital. Failure to provide this written confirmation will result in
cancellation of your admission / procedure.
Please be aware that you are personally liable for the payment if your account has not been
paid within 2 months.
If you request a private room, a daily fee applies, which is payable on admission and is not
covered by the insurance company.
If you have any queries please contact our Reception staff on 8239 9100.

In order to provide you with an efficient admission process, we request that where possible you lodge or post your Admission Form, Patient Health Questionnaire and Consent Forms

General Patients (patients staying overnight)
You may be admitted through the Patient Services Reception area in the front foyer or via
the Reception area in the Day Procedure Suite.
Although we endeavour to provide patients with private rooms, this may not always be
possible due to unforeseen patient numbers and the gravity of some illnesses. Therefore,
you may be placed in a share room on admission. You may then be transferred to a private
room at a later time, when one becomes available.

Day Procedure Patients
Please follow the signage to the Day Procedure Suite
Admission Desk located on the 1st floor above the Mary Potter Hospice.

Maternity Patients
Please proceed to the 2nd floor desk, via the maternity entrance
(near x-ray department).
Between the hours of 7pm and 7am admissions are via the Main
Hospital Front Entrance only. Please use the bell to gain admittance.

Hospice Patients
Please go directly to the Hospice desk.

Calvary Oncology
Please report directly to the Patient Services Reception area in the main foyer on the ground floor and directions will be provided to the Calvary Oncology area.

Please be aware that Calvary North Adelaide Hospital has no Emergency Department.
The nearest Emergency Departments are the Royal Adelaide Hospital (adult), the Women's and Children's Hospital (children) or the private Emergency Department at Calvary Wakefield Hospital (adults and children).

Discharge

The discharge time is 10:00am

at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital and we ask that you make arrangements to leave
the hospital at this time to allow staff to prepare the room for incoming admissions.
